In Tier I we teach our audience about the basics of occupational risks due to BBP. This course provides specialized and in-depth training that meets the requirements of US 29 CFR 1910.1030 for all professions, (except healthcare and laboratory workers who also require Tier II Training below). Within all Tiers of our BBP course, our audience is led by an infectious disease expert(s) with experience teaching how to mitigate the risks of exposure to BBP. Topics covered include but are not limited too:
- Employer Requirements within U.S. Code of Federal Regulation (29 CFR 1910.1030) to provide a safe work environment in regard to BBP
- The basics of BBP discovery, routes of transmission, prevention of exposure (pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical), symptoms/onset of infection, and post-exposure procedures
- Begin to Identify workplace procedures that can result in exposure to BBP
- How to implement controls to mitigate exposures to workplace BBP
- Areas of residual risk within ECP procedures
- Elements required within a written ECP
- Personal Protective Equipment Requirements
- How to implement controls to mitigate exposures to workplace BBP
- Areas of residual risk within ECP procedures
In Tier II we build upon the lessons in Tier I and tailor the training for research/laboratory personnel and management. This Training is required for Research and Clinical Laboratories, Meets OSHA’s Requirement for Annual Training for individuals working in an HIV and HBV Research Laboratory (up to (A)BSL4). After completing the course participants will understand:
- Facility and behavioral requirements
- Requirements with labeling of hazards
- Requirements for workplace controls when performing manipulations with bloodborne pathogens
- Effective and safe spill response
- Effective and safe sharps practices
- Prohibited behaviors and practices
