- Assess the risk of occupational exposure and infection associated with handling infectious agents.
- Demonstrate familiarity with routes of exposure, modes of transmission, and other criteria that determine the hazard category of a microorganism.

- Understand the hazard of exposure of service personnel to biological materials.
- Understand the risk associated with biological aerosols in the workplace, such as ventilation, indoor air quality, recirculation, and cooling towers.

- Review project proposals and advise on biosafety issues.

- Assure documentation of worker exposure to biohazardous materials and preparation of an incident report.
- Demonstrate knowledge of personal risk factors associated with microbial exposure.

- Advise on occupational health programs for persons working with biological materials.

- Demonstrate knowledge of unique biosafety conditions associated with naturally or experimentally infected animals, including nonhuman primates.
- Interpret and apply regulations associated with animal pathogens.
- Demonstrate familiarity with agencies, such as WHO, CDC, NIH, OSHA, AAALAC, DOT, IATA, ICAO, DOD, EPA, USDA, and FDA, and their role and relationship with biosafety.

- Understand how to use chemicals, steam, dry heat, irradiation, filtration, ultraviolet (UV) sources, gases, or other agents to kill or inactivate microorganisms.

- Understand the use and validation of sterilizers using ethylene oxide (ETO) and vaporized hydrogen peroxide.

- Interpret and apply the NSF International Standard/ American National Standard on Class II laminar flow biohazard cabinetry (NSF/ANSI 49).
- Understand the use and certification of biological safety cabinets (BSCs).
- Demonstrate knowledge of Class I, II, and III BSC design features, applications, and functions.
- Understand the calibration and use of air-measuring instruments to verify the safe operation of biological safety equipment.
- Understand the design, function, and efficiency of HEPA filters.
- Understand the limitations in the use of equipment, such as fume hoods and clean benches, for work with biohazardous materials.
Exam content domain tasks applicable to bioaerosols:

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of Module 7, participants will be aware of the essential concepts in the following exam content domain tasks.
Exam content domain tasks applicable to regulatory aspects, standards, and guidelines:
- Interpret and apply OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
- Interpret and apply regulations for packing, labeling, and shipping of infectious materials, diagnostic specimens, and medical waste.
- Interpret and apply import and export requirements associated with biological materials.
- Interpret and apply OSHA law, standards, and directives as they relate to biohazards.
- Interpret and apply guidelines and regulations relating to infectious and medical waste.
- Demonstrate familiarity with agencies, such as WHO, CDC, NIH, OSHA, AAALAC, DOT, IATA, ICAO, DOD, EPA, USDA, and FDA, and their role and relationship with biosafety.
Exam content domain tasks applicable to IBCs:
- Understand the role and function of an institutional biosafety committee.
- Prepare and maintain a biosafety manual.
- Organize and implement institutional biosafety compliance programs and audit their effectiveness.
- Institute, evaluate, and document biosafety training.
- Identify biological agents and materials in your institution.
Exam content domain tasks applicable to emergency response:
- Develop and implement procedures for managing biohazardous spills and releases.
- Develop comprehensive emergency response plan for biohazard areas.
P.A.C.E.® CONTACT HOURS/CREDENTIALING MAINTENANCE POINTS
ABSA International is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program. This course is worth 4.0 P.A.C.E.® contact hours. In order to receive credit, the participant will need to complete the pre- and post- assessments, course evaluation, and self-paced portion. This course has been approved for 0.5 Credentialing Maintenance (CM) points toward RBP/CBSP recertification.

MODULE INFORMATION
• Access to the module, will expire 280 days (9 months) after enrollment into the course on the ABSA International On-demand Training Site. An extension of nine (9) additional months can be purchased for $25 prior to the expiration date of the module. The regular course fee will be applicable if after the expiration date.
• Once the module certificate has been issued, the participant will continue to have access the module until their expiration date.
• Participants are encouraged to print out materials prior to completing the module to have materials for review post expiration date.

CANCELLATION POLICY
There will be a $25 cancellation fee for each module purchased. If the module has been accessed, no refund will be granted.

These modules are presented in a self-paced/self study format which involves PowerPoint lectures, a pre- and post assessment as well as practice exam-style test questions and reference materials. Each module will take approximately two (2) to five (5) hours to complete, including the pre- and post-course assessment and course evaluation.
