Laboratories & 1st Responders: Coordination, Planning, & Emergency Response webinar will provide researchers, administrators, and safety professionals working in laboratory facilities with recommendations and best practices on how to establish beneficial working relationships with regional emergency response agencies. This webinar will provide an overview of emergency management functions, strategies for engaging 1st responders, recommendations on how to prepare research facilities for emergencies, and breakout sessions and case studies to discuss how to build relationships, support 1st responders, develop response procedures, and conduct exercise planning. Ample time will be provided throughout the webinar to discuss participant experiences and concerns.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Implement multiple strategies to engage 1st responders
- Facilitate open lines of communication with 1st responders
- Recognize differences of perception and perspective on biosafety risk
- Share accurate information on biosafety hazards with 1st responders
- Identify additional organizational stakeholders required to participate in emergency response planning

This webinar will consist of two 2-hour sessions on Wednesday August 27, and Wednesday September 3, 2025 at 12:00pm CDT. For the webinar session, you should plan on logging in 15 minutes prior to the start time. You are required to attend the webinar sessions, complete and/or access all the modules in the course on the training site to receive the completion certificate through the ABSA International Training Site. The link in the invitation is unique to the user and cannot be shared.

To receive the ABSA member rate, participants must be current ABSA members during the training year. Fees include course handouts, access to the ABSA International training site, and 4 hours of expert-led interactive instruction.

Substitutions allowed with notice by 7/30/2025. Cancellations incur a 15% fee. Between 7/30/2025 and 8/5/2025, 50% refunds apply. No refunds after 8/5/2025.
