Arthropod Research, Containment, Biosafety and Beyond is a webinar that will aid researchers, greenhouse personnel, engineers, and anyone who is currently designing or renovating a space or involved in or planning arthropod research. The webinar will review the applicable regulations impacting arthropod research, permitting requirements, human exposure concerns, technologies and the containment and environmental considerations of rearing, containing, and devitalizing insects. It will also cover how to perform a risk assessment, operational work practices and arthropod containment levels (ACL) 1 through 4 design requirements. At the conclusion, participants will understand the basics of arthropod research.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the need to do arthropod research
  • Restate the requirements/regulations that affect arthropod research
  • Identify concepts related to insectary design
  • Explain how to perform a risk assessment
  • Review the requirements for arthropod containment: ACL 1-4
  • Identify the operational requirements for arthropod research
  • Summarize the challenges and risks of working with genetically modified organisms

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Biosafety professionals, greenhouse personnel, engineers, and researchers in government, industry, academic and other institutions/organizations
  • Anyone who regularly communicates about biosafety with the public or non-biosafety professionals

This course has been approved for 0.5 CM points toward RBP/CBSP recertification. ABSA International is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program. This webinar will be two, 2-hour sessions on Thursday, February 16 and Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 1:30 pm CST. For the webinar sessions, you should plan on logging in at 1:15 pm (CST) both days. You are required to attend the two webinar sessions, complete and/or access all the modules in the course on the training site to receive the completion certificate through the ABSA International Training Site. The link in the invitation will be unique to the user and cannot be shared.

ABSA Members $225 USD
Nonmembers $360 USD

To obtain the ABSA member rate, the participant will need to be an ABSA member in the year in which the training is offered. Course fees include: course handouts, access to the ABSA International training site, and 4-hours of interactive instruction from a well-respected subject matter expert.

20% off each registration for 5-9 participants from the same organization
30% off each registration for 10 or more participants from the same organization

To obtain the ABSA member rate, the participant will need to be an ABSA member in the year in which the training is offered. Confirmed, paid participants will be sent detailed information regarding the course within a few days prior to the course. Substitutions allowed with notice by 1/19/2023. There is a 15% processing fee for cancellations prior to 1/19/2023. Cancellations between 1/19/2023 and 1/26/2023 will be refunded at 50% of the course fee. No refunds after 1/26/2023.
