Applications are now open for CDC’s Laboratory Leadership Service (LLS). LLS provides training for laboratory scientists with an emphasis on safety, quality, and leadership. LLS is intended to prepare laboratory leaders to protect the public’s health, safety, and security. National Inventory for Poliovirus Containment (NIPC) survey

The US National Authority for Containment of Poliovirus (NAC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Preparedness and Response has recently launched the National Inventory for Poliovirus Containment: Minimizing Risk of Poliovirus Release from Laboratories in the United States, as part of the WHO Global Action Plan (GAP III). In compliance with GAP III, the US is required to complete a national inventory of poliovirus-containing materials by surveying laboratories and other facilities. EHS at ASU Launches Eye Promise Safety Glasses Campaign

Environmental Health and Safety has launched the Eye Promise campaign to raise awareness for wearing appropriate eye protection. The campaign asks university students, faculty and staff to promise to wear their safety glasses whenever they are in areas working with hazardous materials or physical hazards. Human Salmonella Typhimurium Infections Linked to Exposure to Clinical and Teaching Microbiology Laboratories

In a CDC Investigation notice posted on July 19, 2017, it was reported that there was another multi-state outbreak linked to clinical, commercial and college microbiology teaching laboratories. Twenty-four people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Typhimurium were reported from 16 states. Six ill people were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
