Strengthening and Modernizing Biosafety Oversight: Region 1 Listening Session

NIH, in partnership with the New England Biological Safety Association, the Northeast Biological Safety Association, the Mid-Atlantic Biological Safety Association and the Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association, will be holding the first in a series of public listening sessions to obtain stakeholder feedback on NIH’s effort to modernize and strengthen biosafety oversight.
Priority for this meeting will be given to stakeholders located in: ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, PA, NJ, DE, WV, MD, and Washington DC.
- Register for the first initiative- September 30, 2025, from 2:00–5:00 PM ET, NIH will host a virtual Regional Listening Session co-sponsored by NEBSA, MABSA, CABSA, and NENBA. The session is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required: Reserve your spot here to attend the September 30 virtual meeting.
- Review the Draft Agenda: Download the flyer and identify questions or topics most relevant to your institution.
- Submit a Comment – Template options follow: Copy, paste, and customize one of the templates — and encourage colleagues (IBC chairs, PIs, administrators) to submit unique comments as well.
- Put It on the Agenda: Share the session with your IBC, compliance teams, and research leadership so it’s discussed in upcoming meetings.
The more voices NIH hears, the stronger, more actionable, and more implementable the final framework will be — and our profession will have shaped the future of biosafety oversight in meaningful ways. More details can be found:
