SUMMARY:Strengthening and Modernizing Biosafety Oversight: Region 1 Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening and Modernizing Biosafety Oversight: Region 1 Listening Session\nEvent Date: 09/30/2025\nTime: 2:00-5:00 PM ET \nNIH\, in partnership with the New England Biological Safety Association\, the Northeast Biological Safety Association\, the Mid-Atlantic Biological Safety Association and the Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association\, will be holding the first in a series of public listening sessions to obtain stakeholder feedback on NIH’s effort to modernize and strengthen biosafety oversight. \nPriority for this meeting will be given to stakeholders located in: ME\, NH\, VT\, MA\, CT\, RI\, NY\, PA\, NJ\, DE\, WV\, MD\, and Washington DC. \n\nRegister for the first initiative- September 30\, 2025\, from 2:00–5:00 PM ET\, NIH will host a virtual Regional Listening Session co-sponsored by NEBSA\, MABSA\, CABSA\, and NENBA. The session is free and open to the public\, but pre-registration is required: Reserve your spot here to attend the September 30 virtual meeting.\nReview the Draft Agenda: Download the flyer and identify questions or topics most relevant to your institution.\nSubmit a Comment – Template options follow: Copy\, paste\, and customize one of the templates — and encourage colleagues (IBC chairs\, PIs\, administrators) to submit unique comments as well.\nPut It on the Agenda: Share the session with your IBC\, compliance teams\, and research leadership so it’s discussed in upcoming meetings.\n\nThe more voices NIH hears\, the stronger\, more actionable\, and more implementable the final framework will be — and our profession will have shaped the future of biosafety oversight in meaningful ways. More details can be found: \n\nEvent webpage: ly/3IaB6gn\n\nNIH Background on the Initiative: NIH Biosafety Modernization Initiative Overview\n\nFlyer & Draft Agenda: Session 1 Flyer (PDF)\n\nSend questions: SciencePolicy@od.nih.gov

SUMMARY:ISO/TS5441:2024 Competence Requirements for Biorisk Management Advisors: what it is\, how to use it
DESCRIPTION:ISO/TS5441:2024 Competence Requirements for Biorisk Management Advisors: what it is\, how to use it\nONLINE\, September 24th 2025\, 10:00-12:00 CET\nInstructor: Ursula Jenal\nIn spring 2024\, the International Organization for Standardization\, ISO\, published the technical specification ISO/TS5441:2024 Competence Requirements for Biorisk Management Advisors (BMA). ISO/TS5441 compiles all information on required knowledge\, skills and experience a biorisk management advisor should have to provide competent advice to an organization under a given context\, that is\, based on the types of activities with biological material and their risk. ISO/TS5441 helps you to demonstrate and update your competence and it supports organization on how to define their competence need and how to choose a BMA. ISO/TS5441 has been designed by biosafety experts from different countries around the globe based on consensus\, thus being a truly international specification. \nThe course will inform BMA of all degree of expertise and fields of activities on how ISO/TS5441 supports biorisk management advice activities. ISO/TS5441 can be purchased from national standardization organisations. However\, this is not a prerequisite for attending the course. \nMain topics\nHaving evolved from CWA 16335 Biosafety professional competence\, ISO/TS5441 addresses all topics covered by CWA 16335\, this CEN workshop agreement no longer in place. Most importantly\, addressed are the range of subjects a BMA needs to be competent in at what level of biorisk in an organization and how an organization can define which competence is required for their biorisk management needs. \nRegister now!
